Mr. Milligan, an Indianapolis attorney and Indiana land baron
began construction of his dream home as a reflection of his
wealth and success in 1898. The 8000-sq. ft. brick Georgian
Revival Colonial was his pride and joy until his death in
1913. At the probate of his will his wife
received half of his assets and his several siblings were
given multiple farms each and other notable real estate. At
the bottom of his list each of his 7 nieces and nephews received
$100,000 in cash.

In 1938 the house was remodeled into 5 apartments
using the finest materials of white oak and plaster on
lathe. The individual apartments were elegant. In 1980
extensive interior demolition was undertaken and the house
was restored to its residential form, generally in evidence
today. |
For several years the Davis collected architectural
antiques for the restoration and you will notice 5 exquisite
fireplace mantels from different periods, very fine stained
and beveled glass, an early (1870s) gothic revival stairs,
museum quality gas chandeliers, and many fine furnishings.
Throughout its 100-year history the house has entertained
many guests at many parties. The Yellow Rose Inn continues
that tradition of warm hospitality and playfulness as the
home of weddings, meetings, and lodging for travelers who
want the very best in beauty, comfort, and convenience.
